During times of sickness and injury, patients need someone who can provide
spiritual and emotional support. You can provide that help. As a chaplain intern at Carle Foundation Hospital – a Level 1 Trauma Center – you’ll find many opportunities to make a real impact on the lives of patients, families and staff. Together with our staff chaplains, you’ll work with critical and non-critical patients alike in a variety of departments, including Neonatal ICU, Cardiology and Oncology. Plus, you’ll develop the skills and understanding you need for your ministry, whether you serve in a hospital, university or church.
Carle offers a unique opportunity for CPE students to hone their pastoral skills in a supportive environment. The Hospital’s Pastoral Care Department has a director and four staff chaplain positions. Staff chaplains work directly with interns throughout the course of the program. Students will also work closely with staff in a variety of hospital departments, including Pediatrics, Surgery and Internal Medicine, just to name a few.
Our CPE combines classroom and hands-on learning. While at Carle, students will participate in educational experiences such as:
Students will also work one-on-one with patients and family members. These duties include:
