Staff Background Information

Anna Keck, Ph.D., Executive Director of the Research Institute, Interim Director of Research Office

Dr. Keck has a M.S./B.S. in Biochemistry from the Uppsala University, Sweden, a M.S. in Chemistry from the Illinois State University and a Ph.D. in Nutritional Toxicology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her post-doc research focused on availability and efficacy of food forms of selenium in humans at Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center, USDA-ARS followed by four years as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Nutrition at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where she studied safety and efficacy of bioactive food components in cancer prevention. Dr. Keck joined the Research Institute at Carle Foundation Hospital in Aug 2007 and she is the Chair for the Scientific Review Committee.

Mary Lyman, Office Coordinator

Mary has an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Parkland College.  Prior to working at Carle, she worked in the Telecommunications industry for over 10 years.  Mary enjoys spending time with her family and participating in 5K and half-marathon racing events.

 

Barbara Hall, B.S., Research Coordinator

Barbara received a BS in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Illinois. She joined the Carle Clinic Association staff in 1982 and has served numerous functions over several decades.  She has also been a key contributor to the Health Systems Research Center in the Medicare Alzheimer’s Disease Demonstration; the cancer prevention trials; clinical trials and translational research.  In addition, she has been invaluable in initiation and conduct of nursing, resident and student research. Her primary role as a research coordinator is working on translational research projects at Carle.

 

Charletta Little, B.S., Research Coordinator

Charletta earned a B.S. degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Agricultural Sciences and plans to pursue a Master degree in statistics at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She joined the Research Office in middle of 2007 after being employed at The Carle Clinic Association for over 10 years. Her primary role as a research coordinator is working with physicians at Carle on studies they initiate.

 

Rachel Magsalin, MD, Research Coordinator

Rachel earned her BA in Biology from the University of Kansas.  She continued with her post-graduate studies in the Philippines where she earned her Doctor of Medicine degree.  After graduation, she took a one year medical internship and rotated in all the departments of medicine.  She was then allowed to take the Philippine Board Exams the following year.  After passing the boards and taking her Oath in 2007, she moved back to the states and is currently working on board certification in the states.  The majority of her research background is community diagnosis and awareness.  She just moved to Illinois from Kansas and is one of the two Resident Research Coordinators.  Her primary role as a research coordinator is working with Residents, Fellows and Faculty in their research projects.

 

Kevin Osborne, BS, CCRP Research Coordinator

Kevin received a BS in Integrative Biology from the University of Illinois. He joined the Carle Clinic Association in 2008 in the Cancer Research Department working mainly with patients on Cancer Control, Gynecological Studies, and expanding the use of online regulatory tracking. He transitioned to the Research Institute where his primary role is as a research coordinator working with translational projects and cochlear/hearing research at Carle.

 

Pamela Talbott, MPA, Research Coordinator

Pamela joined our team in November 2007, after completing her Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Illinois in Springfield. While in graduate school, she worked at the Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Women’s Health.  Her responsibilities included grant management, workshop facilitation, marketing, community outreach, and conducting grantee site visits at several county health departments. Her primary role as a research coordinator is working with Residents, Fellows and Faculty in their research projects.
