Staff Background Information
Dixie Mayol, MS, Director of Research Operations Ms. Mayol has a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and received a M.S. in Physical Education with a specialization in Cardiac Rehabilitation Therapy from Eastern Illinois University. She previously worked at the University of Illinois in the Department of Kinesiology as a Research Specialist and then as staff in the University Institutional Review Board Office. Ms. Mayol joined the research department at Carle Foundation Hospital in July of 2007 as the Residency Research Coordinator and was promoted to the Manager of Project Planning for Research in October of 2007 and to Director of Research Operations in June of 2009.
Pam Woo, Carle Tissue Repository Supervisor Pam has been employed at Carle since November 1994. She began her Carle career in Pediatrics and then transferred to the Post Partum/Labor and Delivery floor. While there, she helped implement several computer systems and worked diligently to assist the management and leadership staff in their movement towards opening the two new floors on NT 10 and NT11. She served as a resource for continuing education, orientation and was also involved with creating and maintaining of the OB partnership council. In May of 2002, Pam was nominated for a “Friend of Nursing Award”. In November 2007, she transferred to the Research Institute She currently serves as the Data Management Specialist at the Carle Tissue Repository. Her duties include creating and maintaining a central database to allow retrieval of the information needed to determine the availability of appropriate specimens and data for proposed research on tissue bank resources. Tracking and responding to inquiries regarding the tissue bank. Processing of requests and coordination of letters of intent, applications and shipments of specimens. Tracking of availability and location of glass slides, specimen blocks, frozen materials, specimen microarrays and early identification of nearly depleted specimens.
Mary Lyman, Office Coordinator Mary has an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Parkland College. Prior to working at Carle, she worked in the Telecommunications industry for over 10 years. Mary enjoys spending time with her family and participating in 5K and half-marathon racing events.
Frank J. Bellafiore, MD, Pathologist/Medical Director After obtaining his undergraduate degree in 1986 from Creighton University in Omaha, Dr. Bellafiore obtained his MD degree in 1990 from Washington University in St. Louis and completed his pathology residency and fellowship training from 1990-1995 at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville. He has practiced pathology at Carle since 1995 and is currently the medical director of Carle Histology, Flow Cytometry, and Hematology as well as the Carle Tissue Repository. In addition, he is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Pathology at the University Of Illinois Urbana-Champaign School Of Medicine and is actively involved in teaching medical students both in the classroom and individually. He has special interests in breast pathology, head and neck pathology, and hematopathology. |
