AirLife Air Medical Transport
Carle Foundation Hospital
is proud to provide complete air medical transportation services throughout east
central Illinois. AirLife is stationed at Carle
Foundation Hospital around the clock with a Carle air medical transport team on-site and
ready for take-off within minutes.
AirLife operates under the medical direction of Thomas Scaggs, MD, an emergency
medicine specialist with Carle Foundation Hospital. The 18-member flight crew consists of experienced
EMS pilots, physicians, critical care flight registered nurses,
obstetrical and neonatal nurses, and critical care flight paramedics.
AirLife is often used for the following types of patients/situations:
- Perinatal and neonatal patients
- Trauma
- Cardiac
- Burn
- Orthopedic
- Poisonings
- Emergency scene flights
- Transports between facilities
As the region’s Level I Trauma Center, it is imperative that we bring
critically ill or injured patients throughout our 24-county region to the
highest level of care as safely and quickly as possible. Because the BK-117 Aircraft and flight team
is
located at Carle Foundation Hospital, lift off times are approximately 7 minutes with
a travel speed of 150 miles per hour. This allows the AirLife team to reach patients
quickly so that appropriate care and treatment can begin.
AirLife is totally dedicated to medical transportation. Its interior is fully
medically configured and comes with the very latest patient care equipment. An
airborne emergency room, its large cabin allows access by the flight team to the
patient’s entire body so that critical care procedures can be performed en
route.
AirLife currently operates one twin engine Eurocopter BK-117B1. It is
equipped with the latest in navigational GPS, Satellite Tracking and avionics.
With the larger airframe, it enables the crew full access to the patient in
flight.
