Session Three - Population-Based Communicable Diseases

A partnership of Carle, University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Champaign Urbana Public Health District, ASPCA Poison Control Hotline, and Champaign County Humane Society, this quarterly professional education series unites physicians, veterinarians, and other human and animal health care professionals to explore the relationship between human and animal health.

Doors open at 5:00 p.m. with a dinner reception, and the educational session runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Payment of $25 per session or $75 for the four-part series - which includes dinner and professional education units - due upon check-in at session(s) of choice.

Registration fee waived for staff members of educational partners (ASPCA, Carle, CCHS, UIUC COVM, and CUPHD) and for medical, nursing, veterinary, and other students (with university identification).

Advance payment via credit card may be arranged by calling (217) 383-7008. Advance payment via check may be mailed to: Carle Office of CME at 221 North Broadway in Urbana, Illinois 61801.

Invited attendees include: veterinarians, primary care, pediatric, emergency medicine, convenient care, and other interested physicians, public health professionals, advanced practice providers, registered nurses, veterinary technicians and assistants, and other human and animal health care professionals.

Non-Communicable and Other Unique Conditions

Upon completion of this activity, the participant should be able to:

  • Explain the relationship between human and animal health for medical professionals.
  • Identify benefits of collaboration between human and animal medical professionals.
  • Describe strategies to apply to daily practice to improve clinical care of patients.
  • List communicable diseases impacting both humans and animals.
  • Describe prevention, diagnosis, and treatment considerations for zoonotic diseases.
  • Discuss treatment interventions that apply to both human and animal patients.
  • Increase collaboration and communication between human and veterinary medicine.
  • Identify local resources addressing medicine and public health for humans and animals.

Carle Foundation Hospital is accredited by the Illinois State Medical Society to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Carle Foundation Hospital designates this live activity for a maximum of 8.0 AMA PRA Category I Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Carle Foundation Hospital is an approved provider for the American Occupational Therapy Association to provide continuing education in occupational therapy. This intermediate level program awards occupational therapy practitioners 2.0 contact hours. The assignment of AOTA CEU's does not imply endorsement of the specific content, products, or clinical procedures by AOTA.

Carle Foundation Hospital is an approved provider of PT continuing education through the Illinois Department of Professional Regulation. PT CEU Provider (IDFPR License # 216000061). This course is approved for 2.0 CE hours for PT and PTA.

Carle Foundation Hospital is approved as a sponsor of continuing education credit for social workers by the Department of Professional Regulations of the State of Illinois (License # 159-000491). This event has been approved for 2.0 continuing education units for social workers.

DVM's will earn one hour of continuing education for each hour of education.
